Every day, my scholars participate in 45 minutes of monitored independent reading. This gives students a chance to pick a book they find engaging and read for the love of reading. As a first year teacher, almost all the inclusive and engaging reads in my classroom have been bought with my own money. However, scholars have expressed their desire for graphic novels and other series that they enjoy reading. After sitting down with each student and determining what they like to read and what they wish to see in my classroom, all students have collaborated on this list of books. This means these are all works they will WANT to read. It is my hope I will be able to reach reluctant readers with these books and help students recognize they ARE readers and there ARE books out there they will find interesting and engaging.
