The addition of these devices to my classroom will make it a 2:1 room, meaning there will be one device available for every two students. We currently only have enough for a quarter of the class at a time, so the success of this project will allow half the class to work online at the same time. This means that we will be able to use technology not only for online tests, but also for projects and games. In my experience at other schools, students are more engaged when they are able to use technology for more than just tests -- and that can only happen when enough devices are available. Projects allow students to explore their own interests and can even make the difference between "Why do we have to learn this?" and "Oh, I didn't realize this is part of [insert subject here]. That's cool! Can we learn more about it?" Additionally, our world is becoming more and more dependent on technology, so computer literacy is going to be an absolute necessity in nearly all of these children's future careers. These additional devices would also allow me to offer a technology-based after-school club, such as typing club, which was very popular when I ran it at my previous school.
