I will be using these books as part of the curriculum for my eleventh grade English students. We will utilize them for both full-class readings and literature circles. They will also be available in my classroom library for use by all levels of students. My hope is that these books will open the eyes and hearts of my students who would surely benefit from reading texts about diverse people and cultures. These incredible titles will replace a few texts from the traditional literary canon, providing a real-world, non-fiction experience for my readers who are bored with the same old texts and are hungry for something different —and something necessary.
