If funded, students who are currently struggling readers and/or English Learners, as well as students from diverse cultural backgrounds, will be more likely to pick up a book that is inviting. Graphic novels are easily accessible for all students and are a "gateway" for more difficult texts. Books that students of varied backgrounds can relate to will draw them into reading. These books, if funded, will reach more than a classroom of 27 since they can be shared across the upper grade levels. In addition, using the teacher text, "Reading Strategies," will aid in delivery of skills lessons with texts as an anchor for instruction in class.
