Books are extremely vital to a first grade program. Children learn to read through various components as Interactive Read Alouds, Shared Reading, Guided Reading, Partner Reading and Independent Practice. The books I have selected, such as Hoot and Peep and Pumpkin Soup, will play an important role in all of these components. Children learn best through example. The books that I have listed will enhance my Interactive Read Aloud lessons. I will be able to model what a good reader does when reading a story. Interactive Reading allows the reader to read and think at the same time. This allows me to scaffold the children's understanding of the book being read. Through different genres, I will be able to lay the framework for a solid foundation in reading. This foundation will carry them through their entire academic career.
