Our community often struggles with displacement, transience, and financial difficulties, and we rely heavily on volunteers that give their time to care for our students throughout the school year. Our community mentors attend once per week during the lunch hour to eat lunch and connect with students through play, providing them with stability and meaningful connections.
By donating to my project, these community mentors will be able to empower students to succeed by establishing trusting relationships through play. This is significantly aided by the materials listed in my campaign that we are currently lacking. These games and sensory activities offer mentors and other community volunteers a chance to create connections, helping students to open up and learn valuable interpersonal skills, strengthening their connection to develop consistent, long-term friendships.
Students in the mentor program will be able to choose games, sensory activities, or craft projects to experience with a trusting adult. Each resource in our mentor center will be treated with respect and the students will be so thankful to be able to use them. Many of them do not have the opportunity to use materials such as these in their daily lives and they are so deserving of time just being a kid. They absolutely love playing and spending time with their mentors and thrive in and out of the classroom because of this program. The positive results of mentoring will only be enhanced by your investment in my project! These materials will be cared for and utilized by many for years to come!
