Reading is part of our every day lives, especially in the lives of my students. My 22 first graders are avid and passionate readers. When reading, the mind is transported to another place and student's are able to use their imaginations and build schema. Reading is achieved most effectively when students are comfortable and in a relaxing environment. Therefor, by providing a comfortable reading nook for my students, their reading will improve tremendously this year. Providing my students with a reading nook will help them improve their reading abilities and build schema that will last them a lifetime. I have seen the impacts that a comfortable learning environment can have on student learning. Being a professional I have also done extensive research on how student reading abilities can be increased by the environment in which they read in. Having the reading nook will create life long memories for my students, and will always be a safe place that they remember throughout their childhood.
