Math is an important skill that help shape our young students along with science, reading, and writing. Math instruction in these early years are a vital key to developing skills on counting to 10, recognizing numbers, and sorting objects. Allowing our students to use concrete props such as buttons, counting bears, and blocks will be beneficial in teaching our students about patterns, basic addition and subtraction, and sorting by number, color, and characteristics. This hands on teaching method works best with younger students that may not be able to grasp abstract concepts. Sorting various items by objects, color, and size helps children notice how things are different and alike and is a vital piece in math.
