I hope that through exposure to different genres, different stories, and different perspectives, my students will learn more about the world around them and learn to love to read. In order to be more fluent readers, and build a broader vocabulary, students need to read, and they need to read books that are interesting to them, such as novels. I know the novels I have chosen may not appeal to all of my students, but through exposure to several different stories, I hope they will figure out what they enjoy. Teaching in a low income area, often students are not encouraged by their families to read. I hope that I can step in with high interest novels and change that pattern.
