This year, I have been tasked with getting 19 first-graders from an at-risk community to learn how to read on grade level. Our school is an inclusive school, so I pull students over to my noodle desk while the general education teacher continues to teach the majority of the class. I have spent the first two weeks of this school year administering a myriad of baseline tests to assess where our scholars are individually and have come to realize that most of them have auditory processing issues that are preventing them from reading on grade level. The noise-canceling headphones would significantly help reduce the auditory processing barrier to their ability to learn how to read. By reducing extra noise in the class, they will be able to focus better on the information in front of them. The stools will limit my students from having to disrupt class by dragging their chairs over to my table when it is their turn to work with me, which will make for more time for instruction for both the students I am working with as well as the students the general education teacher is working with.
