I have chosen materials that will help to support my little learners in reading and writing. I have been teaching in the public school setting for 15 years and this is my first year in first grade. Unfortunately, my supplies are very limited and my room is some what bare. This variety of materials will give them many enriching experiences with language and communication and make reading relevant to their lives. The big paper for anchor charts during large group learning is important as I model what good readers and writers do.Words in different shapes and colors draw the student's eye and help them to manipulate and distinguish words. The posters and charts show children that words help us everyday to organize, learn, and help us to convey our thoughts. My goal is help students master and go beyond 1st grade literacy skills and they deserve this lifelong gift. Studies show that if children are good writers, they are likely be good readers as well. Reading and writing is a vital skill that is not easy to learn, but with good resources, it won't seem such like a daunting task. I am excited about my students potential for learning and these supplies will be well used all year long.
