Each one of these resources has been chosen to help provide hands-on, interactive, and fun learning activities for each student according to his/her strengths and needs as well as in rotating reading/math groups with the students working cooperatively in centers. Not only will the students learn the basic skills such as decoding, fluency, reading comprehension, and math facts; they will have fun while doing it. Using the manipulatives I am requesting such as word tiles, cards, and games, the children are actively engaging in educational activities. These strategies are effective in gaining the attention of students who may not appear to be interested in reading or math simply because they don't have the basic skills necessary to enjoy the learning. Acquiring the necessary skills for reading will transfer to the other subject areas such as math, science, social studies, and other subject areas so that the students can understand the questions and tasks presented to them. Without reading, there is no learning. My goal is to create lifelong learners who "shoot for the stars" in all that they do and feel like they have reached them by being successful starting with their reading and math skills. Wow! I am excited to watch these students soar.
