Flexible seating in my language arts classroom will promote student choice, movement, and creativity. Studies have shown that flexible seating supports participation in learning and increases student engagement. As my classroom is set up to encourage students to discover their top modes of learning, I would like to offer them alternatives to sitting in a chair without much physical activity for each 74 minute class of our block schedule. These simple options will help my 8th graders to stay engaged and will turn my classroom into a space that will better promote individual study, peer-to-peer discussion, collaboration, and project presentations. I am excited to offer my students some choices and improve their focus for best quality work.
