Reading allows us to travel to otherwise unknown places, and this book takes the reader not only to a small rural village in Africa but also to a place where truly, trash becomes treasure. I teach at a STEM school and we value design thinking, modeling several iterations, and thinking outside the box. The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is the inspirational true story of a boy who learned science by reading, and applied his knowledge by using scrapyard parts to build a windmill, ultimately changing the lives of his family and village. I can't wait to get a copy of this book into my students' hands in Book Clubs. They will love the innovative way the author met his challenges, and I hope it will inspire them to solve a few challenges of their own!
