I teach special education at a charter school in Utah, My students come in eager to learn and make progress on their goals. There are times when the students just need a 5 or ten minute break from the stresses of their day. Having a calming area in the classroom allows the students to take this break in a calm, relaxing, and comfortable place. I have chosen several types of stress toys for students to chose from to help them get their mind and body in a calm state and ready to learn. The emotions and feelings books are there for them to learn more about the things they feel and help them understand how they feel and what they can do. Lastly the sand and Legos are just another way for the students to get out their stress, frustration, or even just clear their head so they can get back in the learning groove.
