As a teacher, I feel overwhelmed at times with the number of tasks I need to accomplish in a day; luckily, I have access to meditation opportunities to help me handle my stress. I see tremendous opportunities to share some de-stressing tools with my students. This year, I will be instituting a "Mindfulness and Relaxation" club at our school during our study hall. Students will have an opportunity to practice breathing exercises and light movements to help them tackle whatever they are facing in their lives. The internet is not always the most calming element in our lives; teenagers may be overwhelmed and anxious about what they encounter online. I see my "Mindfulness and Relaxation" club as a place where they can take what may be their first deep breaths of the day and clear their minds. I am requesting a set of athletic mats for students to use to sit down and unwind for a brief part of their day.
