Obtaining the appropriate number of books will allow the 8th grade to run a book club routine. Students will have have the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of genres and read culturally relevant and modern texts. The book club will be an invaluable means of promoting meaningful student-led discourse and will give them memorable experiences with literature that will support them in becoming lifelong readers. In our school we hope to have a weekly book club session during ELA class during which students run discussions in small groups in which they analyze quotes that resonate with them, make personal connections to characters and events, and inspire creative writing opportunities that will allow for self-expression.
