We say that our students and children are the "future movers and shakers" of our world, but I can assure you they are moving and shaking already! The benefits of flexible seating arrangements have been debated for several years, and in my experience they certainly enhance the learning environment. I currently have one standing desk in my classroom for a particularly fidgety student, and his desk is the envy of the other students. By providing options such as standing desks and alternative seating, I hope to channel that freedom of choice into a stronger focus on learning, rather than how uncomfortable or restricting traditional seating options may feel to my students. My kids have already indicated their desire for these options, and I am looking for donations to help make those requests a reality. These options are not intended to replace traditional desks, only to augment my current classroom layout.
