In my classes we are working on improving our science practices of analyzing, communicating, and evaluating information. It is helpful to have students share information with other groups so we can analyze trends as a class and also practice how best to communicate information to others. We have used large pieces of paper for this task in the past, and although there are benefits to this practice, whiteboards provide a more sustainable approach and will also allow students to correct mistakes without issue. Whiteboards are also useful in quickly assessing student understanding and providing feedback. The whiteboards and markers will allow students to post data, model information and create a discussion to build a more meaningful understanding and improve communication. As my students work to meet the Next Generation Science Performance expectations, this whiteboard project will help increase student to student academic conversation and promote the exchange of ideas to create a more student-driven classroom.
