In first grade, many social emotional lessons are introduced with a mentor text. After reading a story, students proceed through the lesson with discussion, sharing ideas and their experiences. Students then create a piece of art that correlates with the lesson. First graders love painting with watercolors! They like to express their feelings with color and creativity. At our school, we have inefficient materials for watercolor projects. Our brushes are over 20 years old and falling apart. We also only have access to construction paper. Water and construction paper do not go well together!
