Our school finally has a kiln for pottery!! I am trying to outfit the art room with the tools necessary so my students and I can easily create a variety of ceramics. In our pottery classes we will be learning many hand building clay techniques. All projects will provide ample opportunities for both success and failure. These projects will be done in conjunction with classroom teachers, integrating both art and core content area curriculum. The "oops" that happen when working with a new art medium allow for resiliency-building as my students rise above the challenges of working with clay. They will need to learn to adjust, problem-solve and rework their pieces as we learn about how clay works. This rack will allow me to store student pottery between classes as well as to safely wheel the work to the kiln room, which is in a different building. Without these tools, we risk damaging student-made pottery.
