Discipline with Dignity is a concept that helps us move away from punitive practices that can lead to the pipe line to prison. For that reason, a lot of what we need is to assist us in having a calming and inviting atmosphere. These materials will help provide our students with the tools they need to have a safe trauma free atmosphere. The items listed will be used for therapy sessions within the classroom. The carpet will be a soft space to have circle talk and sharing time. The bouncy bands will be placed on the desks to help regulate students who suffer from ADHD while we are having class. The coloring books they will be used to help them learn how to regulate their mind and body. The items will help them to have safe tools at their disposal to utilize when they do need to calm themselves or share traumatic experiences. Our children are dealing with brain trauma and need soothing stimulating things to help curve some of the unwanted behaviors that have resulted in them being unable to cope in the mainstream class room. Discipline with Dignity is a way of helping our children grow and learn better ways of resolving conflict without being shamed because of their unwanted behavior.
