Reading Scholastic Art magazines will motivate and inspire my students because the content is presented in a way that is engaging to teens and preteens. Each themed magazine features interesting articles about art history, contemporary art, and studio art projects that incorporate the elements of art and the principles of design. The information in the magazine is relevant, informative, and thought provoking. Research has shown that magazines are a valuable tool for engaging students in literacy and enhancing opportunities for them to read with deep comprehension. Research also shows that art education increases student engagement. Students who take art have higher overall GPA's than those who don't. Art helps close the gap for students from low income backgrounds, ELL, and special -needs students.
