As a 5th Grade Science teacher in an urban public school, I have the opportunity to work with budding biologists, chemists, physicists and engineers of the future. Teaching in a fully inclusive school, I work daily with students who have many exceptional characteristics, including those who receive special education services and those who are English Language Learners. I certainly need to get creative with my teaching strategies in order to reach every student with skills ranging across several grade levels. Some of my students are working hard to build basic skills, while others are already on the road to being tomorrows rocket scientist. As we work together to build a learning environment that supports everyone's learning needs, my students gain essential skills necessary for 21st century learning and success, as well as the valuable life long skills of working with and respecting the diversity of others.
