The books I have chosen all contain main characters that are from different ethnic groups but similar to my students. It's not very often that they see themselves in the characters they read about. In the Sherlock Sam series, a Korean boy goes to different places that involve a mystery that has to be solved. I think my students will enjoy the different cultural aspects and trying to solve the mystery as we go through the story. Using these stories for guided reading lessons will allow my students to be engaged in quality literature that contains characters similar to themselves.
