I am a Title I reading teacher in a rural, socioeconomically diverse community. I service the lowest quartile students in my school to build stronger readers. I work with kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Most of my students are a year or more behind in their reading skills. These books are for small group instruction to build fluency among our students. I have 1 set of Syd Hoff's books and the kids loved them. They felt like they read a long chapter book. I saw intrigue, excitement and confidence when they read through it a few times. I am hoping with more of these sets, I can build a want and passion to read.
