Listening to books activates a students listening comprehension and visualizing skills. It also helps them to learn what fluent and expressive reading sounds like. Students are highly engaged when listening to stories that are read to them and they feel a sense of choice when they are able to select the story that interests them. Unfortunately many children are not read to at home on a regular basis. Providing my students with multiple Listen to Reading stations will give them another opportunity to listen to books with a partner and to help them gain insight into what fluent reading sounds like. This in turn will help them love to read!
