My students are located in what we call the Glassroom. The Glassroom is a partitioned space in the middle school library where my 15 2nd graders share the space with middle schoolers and another 2nd grade class. The room is partitioned with glass walls that do not reach the ceiling. We have installed curtains to mitigate the visual distractions, but our students are frequently distracted by the sounds of nearby classrooms and passing students. This is where the noise-canceling earphones become a necessity. For testing, our students need silence to be able to focus and with our glass walls and the adjacent commotion, this is out of my control as a teacher.
