We are requesting a standing desk. Research shows that standing desks can improve attention and behavior in the classroom. My students have nine periods a day and most of the time they are sitting in hard desks for long periods of time. A standing desk will give students the option to move and stretch their legs, while still being engaged in the lesson. Giving students more freedom to move and work in a non-traditional way will result in less resistance toward learning. Standing desks are also a great way for students to collaborate -- they can gather around a desk and look at a laptop screen together, something they cannot easily do when seated in chairs. A classroom with a standing desk is a room that students will want to attend. Classes that offer flexible seating options increase engagement and buy-in from students.
