We are requesting new Orff mallets and staff paper to notate music. Students deserve to have the best materials. Without new mallets, the students have a hard time playing our Orff instruments. They are amazing at sharing and rotating stations, but it would mean the world to them if they were ALL able to play together as an entire class. Students use specific mallets on these instruments to produce the best sound. This is imperative in music, as the pitch of the instruments sounds different when manipulated with certain materials. Not only will this provide our rousing rhythmic students with a new sound, but a cleaner, more focused sounding group. Our students love to perform and showcase their skills in a variety of ways. I would like to provide students with a chance to perform their orchestrations at the end of the year. Along with new mallets, they need something to write their music on. I am asking for a large sheet of manuscript paper. With this they are able to display their music composition skills to me and their audience! It is also helpful for me to use during class as a means of improvisation and notation practice. We can not only use this for Orff but for many other activities as well. After all, what is a music classroom if they students can’t read, write, and play music!
