Our students are being taught about self control in the classroom through classroom counseling lessons with the school counselors. Each teacher is emphasizing the coping strategies the students are learning. In addition, I would like to provide a calm down corner for each classroom so students can learn to take a break when they get upset and need a minute to regroup and refocus without being in trouble. Students will learn how to use the calm down corner and learn to manage themselves at the same time. Students will be able to go to the calm down corner and stay for 3-5 minutes utilizing one of the many calming toys and a sand timer to help calm down before they get upset and end up in trouble. These are life skills on managing big emotions and learning about self regulation that they can use for a lifetime.
