"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Suess Through diverse, exciting, and beautifully illustrated books, my students can access a world beyond their current environment. As a new to first grade teacher, my classroom library is made up of a few well-loved, but tattered (and sometimes outdated), books. Our school places a high value on reading and I plan to give my students time to explore new books and learn to read for pleasure. I would love to fill my library with books that show different places in the world, different careers, and educational opportunities--all while reflecting what my students see in the mirror. This is especially important for my English Language Learners and why I specifically chose books that integrate home languages into the classroom library.
