My students come to school energetic and ready to learn every day! They enjoy movement and hands-on activities the most. It is hard for most of them to stay engaged while sitting in a hard, uncomfortable chair all day. They often get fidgety and restless. I would like the opportunity to offer them flexible seating options that will make them more comfortable while they are learning! A comfortable learning environment will lead to more student engagement, which means more success! Just like adults get tired of sitting in hard chairs all day, students do too! They need more flexible/comfortable seating options to enhance student engagement and learning. Studies show that students learn better when they are physically active and comfortable. Students are able to bounce on an exercise ball, sit, stand, kneel, etc. Some of the seating options that will be provided with this project are wobble cushions, wobble stools, and exercise balls. All of these options will give my students the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while they are learning. A rectangular table that is low to the floor will be used with the wobble cushions or students can kneel at the table if they'd rather. The pub table will provide another option for students who like to stand or students who want to sit on a stool to learn. This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable and at home in our classroom. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating!
