Adding a few additional seating options to my classroom will allow my students to utilize their independent reading time in a more comfortable and inviting way. Because there will be a small amount of these flexible seating options, I plan to rotate use each day, giving every student the opportunity throughout the week to make use of them. Many of my students will be coming from low income homes where they are not always afforded comfortable spaces to work or allow their minds to grow. I feel that children become more actively engaged in their learning when they have comfortable places to retreat, even if only for a short time throughout the day. This project could allow me to provide my students that simple comfort and strengthen their motivation for reading!
