Many of my students count on the meals provided at school each day to help fill them up. Sometimes, this is the only food they have access to. Although we start each morning by having breakfast together in our classroom, they are usually hungry again and eager for lunch just a few hours later. By the end of the day, many lose focus and can not concentrate without a snack. With all of the learning that must take place each day, it is vital that I can help meet their basic needs first. Being able to provide snacks like crackers, pretzels, pop tarts, animal crackers, and other favorites will help my students focus on our lessons, rather than where their next meal will come from.
