I want to both lift my student's spirits and challenge them with rigor. How we have to structure our classrooms this year feels almost Victorian in style. Young students will be sitting in rows at desks with their masks on. It will be a very sterile and somewhat austere setting. I am feeling compelled to make returning to school both joyful and safe. The materials I have picked out will allow for them to play with their classmates in creative ways, whilst still maintaining distance. So many games can be used with the stepping stones, I know the students will come up with many ides. Hula hoops are good for aerobic activity and perfect for maintaining distance. In addition we are going to take our learning outside as much as possible. We will be using the chalk for math and writing activities. We will be painting pictures outside with the individual palates and construction paper. After such a long shutdown and the stress families are feeling, it is imperative to create a learning environment that supports students' emotional needs, as well as academic. I would greatly appreciate your help in creating a positive environment during this time.
