This easel will allow me to continue teaching while students are seated at the carpet. (Desks are hard to sit in all day for six-year-olds!) Students will have the opportunity to interact with the easel by writing on it and sharing their knowledge with their peers. The easel can be used for all subjects and is something I have dreamt of having in my classroom for my students to benefit from. First grade introduces sentence writing and reading fluency. We will use the easel to discuss stories we have read by identifying the main idea and writing short summaries. We can also move our number talks to the carpet so students can see the board clearer and be able to interact with the lesson. Allowing students to share in front of their peers increases math and ELA fluency while increasing their confidence to share their thoughts.
