Bringing yoga to my curriculum will enhance the overall experience that my students have in physical education. There are so many wonderful aspects to yoga. One of the most wonderful components is the slow breathing and calming aspect it can teach. Students at my school struggle with cooping mechanisms when they are frustrated, angry or upset. Learning how to do yoga and breathing techniques will help my students to redirect some of these emotions into positive energy. I am so excited to be able to lead them through yoga poses and teach them just how calm their minds can be. So many of my students could benefit from learning how to calm their own bodies. Each day at the end of Physical Education, we will end the day with yoga poses and calming music. This will give my students the opportunity to transition successfully to the classroom environment. It will also give them techniques to use in all areas of life when they are feeling frustrated or weak. My gym is also used as a cafeteria each day. The floor that we use for exercises and daily fitness isn't always ideal. The yoga mats will give my students a clean space to perform daily mediation and yoga poses. A clean and padded personal space will allow the students to be able to completely relax and learn the important concepts of yoga.
