Kindergarteners need as many hands-on experiences as we can give them. My classroom does not have a sensory table, nor do we have items to use with sand or water inside the sensory table. You will be providing my students with the opportunity to engage with new concepts such as opposites (empty/full, wet/dry, sink/float), physical science (motion, action/reaction), as well as opportunities to socially engage with the peers around them. Having a sensory table in my classroom would mean that my students are afforded the opportunity to explore with their hands, and take time in our busy schedule to focus on play. I have a large ESL population in my classroom, and having a sensory table gives them a chance to play with classmates without having to use too much language. I have also included some book boxes we will be able to use in our library to organize our books by theme.
