I enjoy introducing my students to new sports and activities. By the time I get them in High school, many have made up their minds that they aren't cut out for basketball or soccer or many of the traditional sports for that matter. It's necessary for me to open them back up to sport so they can continue to build character and social skills. By encouraging non-traditional sports, many of my students may find they do have athletic talents and this will create the engagement needed to teach about active lifestyle. The main goal being to get my students to feel confident enough to attempt new things that will lead to memories and community building. Lacrosse has a long history history dating back to 1100 A.D. that can be taught, this will incorporate the ELA component into the unit. Math will also be practiced as the students calculate their teams goals per goal attempt. And as the fastest growing team sport in High schools across the U.S. there will be many opportunities to branch out and meet new people.
