I am asking for a variety of hands-on math experiences including magna-tiles, legos, floor puzzles, straws and connectors. These materials will be used primarily during daily math workstations when my students do self-directed work. They will use the materials individually or with partners and small groups, increasing the problem-solving potential. Not only will mathematical problem-solving take place, but social problem-solving opportunities will be a nice additional benefit. With these hands-on math materials my students will not only see math taught, but DO it for themselves! They will be able to plan building projects, create original end products that have come straight from their imaginations, adapt their creations to solve problems, and extend their mathematical thinking through open-ended math-related tasks.
