In reading Esperanza Rising, my students will find her story relatable, making it engaging while providing a variety of opportunities to further explore the book and Esperanza’s many tough and sometimes funny experiences. Esperanza Rising will be read as a class to inspire students to persevere as they overcome challenges in their lives, especially in terms of the immigration and assimilation issues that many of their families face today. Through this book, we will explore new vocabulary, create writing opportunities, incorporate social studies, creative arts and research using technology to better understand Esperanza’s journey as a child who endures loss, change and adventure.

About my class
