Sadly, our school does not own enough musical instruments of any kind for a whole class of students to learn and participate in a hands-on experience. The instruments that the school does own are old, outdated, and in need of repair. The school nor the district provides a budget for music education as it is considered an exploratory area. Most local funding goes to instructional areas like ELA and Math. I believe that music adds a whole new dimension to learning ELA and Math though. For some students, music can be the missing link that helps them connect short term and long term memory. Music has also been proven to lift mood, energize the mind, and even heal the body. A healthy mind and body is essential for a student to learn! So, I believe that music should be thriving in our schools and should be a priority! This project will put an acoustic guitar into the hands of each 8 to 11 year old student in the school on their music class day. That would be so amazing!
