Small group advisory time within a Middle School setting allows for community building, classroom enrichment, student experts, support and connecting with an adult within the building. Our small jewelry making group allows for students to become experts in an area of their interest, small groups allow for a casual and low pressure setting, students feel supported and there are many teachable moments for social-emotional skills, and students are able to connect to one adult more frequently to converse about home and school life. These materials will allow students to explore several different types of jewelry making. Additionally, the group would like to create pieces of jewelry to sell and donate the funds to a local Indianapolis cause. Many of the students are creative and passionate kids who would benefit from the hands on experience, relationship building, and skill work.
