The youngest student in my behavior disorder class came to me concerned because one of his classmates was arrested for pulling on door handles and stealing cars. This concerned young man asked if he could start a Fortnite tournament so his friend could come to school instead of stealing cars. He also suggested that if this becomes popular, "maybe we could challenge other schools that might have other boys having the same problems". We began looking at catalogs to research prices. It is my duty to make my students desire to save a friend possible. With these gaming systems, we will begin monthly and possibly weekly tournaments to give children another option rather than drugs and theft for enjoyment. I shared the idea with a parent and he was excited about coming and challenging the kids on the gaming system. He also asked if I would be willing to help him with his reading since he did not finish school. This could be an opportunity to make a meaningful change to The City That Care Forgot.
