My students love the color-coded Boomwhackers. Songs and notes are played on the screen and they play their Boomwhacker when their color-coded note comes up. Once they have learned the concept that the notes make a song, then we can explore the concept of the whole, half, and quarter notes, allowing us to conceptualize fractions too! My students love using watercolors! The medium is less overwhelming for them, and the cleanup is less overwhelming for me. Plus, the children say "the pretty colors make me feel calm." Music and painting in the classroom will be a wonderful way to bring art into our curriculum.
