My students come to me with a wide variety of reading levels. Within one classroom, I may have a student who reads at a kindergarten level and another student who reads at an eighth grade level. It is my responsibility to meet each child where they are and guide them in their growth. The way that I can do this is through high interest, leveled texts. Student choice is so important in a child's reading development. My students are able to choose books that they want to read, rather than books that are assigned to them that they should like. This choice allows them to feel empowered as readers. Our school does not have a library. Our neighborhood library has recently been closed and many of my students have expressed that they do not have books at home. It is my hope and my duty to my students that I can fill my classroom with a library full of books that my students are excited to read. In order for all of my students to be able to find books that are at their level and of interest to them, we need a large variety of books within our classroom library.
