First graders love to learn. Over the years I've discovered my students learn math best when they can use hands-on activities. This is when they get the most excited about math. These items will give them this opportunity. Each day I teach a specific math concept to my students as a whole group. I like to use whiteboards for the students to demonstrate what they understand. The kids love using small whiteboards at their seat to answer math questions. However, being able to use hands-on activities solidifies in their minds how to perform the math concepts. These games will be used in small groups after the lesson is taught. It will give them the opportunity to teach each other the concept by using the games. Games are a non-threatening way for them to learn. They get math practice and are able to learn social skills while playing these hands-on activities.
