My classroom currently has only 8 ukuleles. Though it is important for students to learn to share equipment with classmates, it doesn't provide the hands-on access students often need to develop a musical skill. The addition of 20 ukuleles will give us a class set of 28, allowing each student to learn and practice the skills of picking, fingering chords, and strumming. They will apply and improve their music reading ability through individual practice in class. They will also learn more about chord progressions (roman numerals and sequence) and musical form. These additional instruments will also allow us to expand our Ukulele Club from 8 students to 28! This club gives students an extra opportunity to play the ukulele for fun. In the past, they have also played for cultural nights and accompanied our choir.
