As a first-year teacher, my classroom library is scarce. This leaves my students with minimal choices when it is time for independent reading. The students have independent reading time twice a day, so I value that they are reading books that are of interest to them. The books are at various levels, so all my students will be able to independently read with success. Also, the books are of high interest for my students so they'll want to read more. The majority of the reading levels of my students in my classroom and the school are below grade-level. In order to increase this, students need to be reading more frequently. I find allowing students choice with their reading gets them feeling more excited and, eventually, reading more! The positive aspects that will come from expanding my classroom library will help my students soar to success.
